Chi Ryaku no Maki module 1/5

The “Bujinkan Shinden Kihon Gata” is better known as the “Tenchijin Ryaku no Maki”.
This new video series of the Tenchijin, released in 2016, has been simplified and respect exactly the text that I received from Sensei in April 1987.

The Chi Ryaku no Maki, the "scroll of the Earth" is the second part of the triptych presenting the “Kihon” or fundamental techniques of the Bujinkan Dōjō. It is the third time (1997, 2005, 2010) that we are recording these fundamentals. The new series is much more comprehensive and simplified. It will help beginners to understand the techniques they see in the dōjō, and advanced students to review some technical points.

The Chi Ryaku no Maki regroups:

  • Hajutsu Kyū Hō (how to get rid of the attacker),
  • Torite Kihon Dori no Kata (escapes),
  • Happō Keri Henka (kick variations),
  • Gyaku Waza (armlocks),
  • Nage Waza (throws),
  • Shime Waza (chokes), and
  • Keri Waza (kicks)

The word "Ryaku" has the meaning of principle, sketch, abbreviation. Each teacher has his way to teach them. Don't be surprised if some of the explanations might differ from what you hear in class.

For pedagogical purposes, I added some techniques that used to be in the "Togakure Ryū Ninpō Taijutsu", a book published in Japanese by Hatsumi Sensei in 1983, and first "Official "Tenchijin", and omitted in the 1987 version.

These add-ons are:

  • Some controls in the Torite Kihon Dori no Kata under the label "Henka" (4)
  • Some Nage Waza under the label "Henka" (3)
  • Keri Waza (presented in the TRNT 83)

As the Chi Ryaku no Maki is detailed into four DVDs, we had to split it in seven downloads of about 55 minutes each.
